Alkoxy methyl heptenone perfume intermediates - prepd. from alkoxy hydroxy methyl butenes obtd. from alkoxy acetones by vinylation or ethynylation

New 7-alkoxy-6-methyl-5-hepten-2-ones RO-CH2-CMe=CH-CH2-CH2-CMeO (I) (where R is Me, Et, n- or iso-C3H7), are perfurmes having fruity, green tones. (I) are also intermediates for 12-alkoxy-3,7,11-trimethyl-dodecatetraenes (IV), useful as perfumes and flavouring materials having an orange-fruity, green note. (I) are prepd. from alkoxyacetones RO-CH2-CO-CH3 (II) first vinylated, or ethynylated and partly hydrogenated. The 1-alkoxy-2-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-butenes obtd., of formula RO-CH2-C(OH)Me-CH=CH2 (III), are then converted to (I).
