A tyre has a reinforcing carcase with parallel filaments passing from one bead to the other and a girdle with parallel filament reinforcements embedded beneath the tread, the carcase filaments near the girdle passing at an angle to the circumference which differs from their angle at the sides. The carcase has two or more reinforcement layers of filaments at divergent angles near the girdle, the girdle itself has two or more layers immediately adjacent to those of the carcase and with its filaments running at various quite different angles. Design permits interlocked reinforcements regardless of the girdle/carcase widths ratio, hence crossply tyres operate better in service without limits in size or type.
