Load stepping switch containing shunt switches - loading increased by rotary switch connected to vacuum switch groups

The load stepping switch contains shunt switches to increase permissible loading and is arranged to keep the size of the overall switch small. A rotary switch is provided with three moving contact wipers and three groups of fixed contacts for 3-phase supplies. Each set of fixed contacts contains three contacts coupled to three vacuum switches which are themselves connected to the tappings of staging transformer in the usual way. The fixed contacts are all positioned so that adjacent fixed contacts are briefly bridged by the moving contacts as the wipers are rotated.
