A constant voltage source supplied from a constant current source is designed to maintain constant output voltage both with load variations in the operating region and with large load variations such as the switching out of some of the loading elements. Good dynamic characteristics and working efficiency are also achieved. - The source may be used with transmission systems operated with constant direct current. - An inverter (U) supplies constant current. Between the inverter and the load are a switching regulator (Dr. TR1, D) and a sensing and control circuit for the switching regulator arranged as a parallel regulating circuit. The regulator control acts as an automatic load control in the event of large load changes. Control is achieved via mark-space ratio variation of a square wave inverter (HW) whose output controls the base of the switching transistor (TR1).
