1464226 Elevated railway switches; electromagnetic systems; wheel arrangements WAGGONFABRIK UERDINGEN AG 3 July 1975 [3 July 1974] 28008/75 Heading B7L A switch for an overhead railway comprises a track formed by two parallel rails 11 (for supporting wheels units 7 having centrally flanged wheels 12) with a slot therebetween (for the wheel flanges and connections to a suspended vehicle body); reaction rails 5 disposed above the rails 11 (for co-operation with linear motors 8 mounted on each side of each wheel unit 7); guide rails 4 disposed above the reaction rails 5 having guide surfaces 4a (for engagement by guide rollers 6 mounted on each wheel unit 7); and further guide means which may be additional rails 10 or may be formed by surfaces of the guide rails 4, Figs. 10-12 (not shown), (for co-operation with rockable guide members 9 carrying rollers 15 mounted on the wheel units 7); wherein the guide surfaces 4a, the further guide means 10 and surfaces 5a of the reaction rails 5 at each side of the track all lie at a gradually increasing respective distance from the centre line of the track in a section 16 located at the start of the switch, lie at a constant maximum respective distance from the centre line in an intermediate region and lie at a gradually decreasing respective distance from the centre line in a further section 16 at the end of the switch. As shown in Fig. 3, each wheel unit 7 is inclined to the vertical while traversing the switch; in a modification, surfaces 4a and 5a of rails 4 and 5 are similarly inclined, Fig. 5 (not shown). In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown), the ends of the rails 11 adjacent to the junction gap 3 are formed as ramps (13) for wheel engagement. |
