<p>1456692 Pipe branches S R V GEBELIUS 24 June 1974 [25 June 1973] 27951/74 Heading F2G A device for forming a junction in a pipe comprises a connector body split longitudinally into two unequal parts which are bolted together around pipe 10 making fluid-tight contact therewith, a guide channel 13 extending at an acute angle to the pipe 10 through the larger part of the connector body, a tubular guiding member 14 screwed into the channel 13; a piercing tool 15 slidable in the channel 13 and a flow channel 19 extending from the inner end of channel 13 to the exterior surface of the connector body wherein, on actuation of piercing tool 15 fluid flows from pipe 10 to a branch pipe attached to the connector body. In use the connector body is sealed around pipe 10 and pressure is applied, e.g. by hammering to the outer end of tool 15 forcing conical cutting face 15<SP>1</SP> through the wall of pipe 10 forming hole 17 and guide members 18, 18<SP>1</SP> which together form a valve seat. The flow of fluid through hole 17 being controlled by rotating member 16 attached to tool 15. A circular flange 22 on tool 15 engages the end face of the smaller diameter part 24 of guide member 14 limiting the penetration of tool 15 into pipe 10.</p> |
