PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driving method of a matrix type display device, with which a sufficient reduction of power consumption can be easily attained in a state that the device satisfies fundamental display quality such as brightness, contrast, a response speed and gradient property. SOLUTION: In this display device, an inactive period T2 longer than a scanning period T1 is set as a non-scanning period and a vertical period is made to be the sum of the scanning period T1 and the inactive period T2. When, for example, the scanning period T1 is set to a time corresponding to an ordinary 60 Hz, since the inactive period T2 longer than the period T1 exists in the vertical period, a vertical frequency becomes a frequency lower than the frequency of 30 Hz. The scanning period T1 and the non-scanning period is properly set in accordance with the degree of movement of the picture which is desired to be displayed such as still picture, moving picture and it is made possible to set plural non-scanning periods for every kind of the scanning period. Then, at least one of non-scanning periods is made to be the inactive period T2. |
