Tubular heat exchanger has tube bundle mounted at least at one end in a flexible mounting. The tube sheet is fixed to this mounting which is in two sections. A cylindrical section is directly attached to the tube sheet while it is in turn attached to a flat ring shaped section which is attached to the exchanger shell. The tube bundle has smaller diameter than the shell. The inert tube sheet is mounted facing the ring section in the direction of flow of gas through the unit. Used in heat transfer situations where there is a significant difference in temp. between the fluids being contacted. The use of the flexible head in the exchanger avoids the formation of damaging stresses due to differential thermal expansion. This allows both the operating temps. and pressures to be increased for max. thermal economy in chemical processes. |
