The lock mechanism is for use on safes and consists of a mechanically operated bolt kept in locked position by a safety catch fitted with a spring acting against the releasing movement of the catch. The safety catch is driven by an auxiliary device (18, 19) arranged in such a way that the safety catch (13) can be brought into two defined positions (16, 16') secured by a spring (12). The two positions related to the function of the bolt (8) mean either the unlocked position (16) or the locked position (16). The safety catch (13) is provided with a nose (15) and the locking bolt (8) with notches (16, 16) into which the nose (15) can alternatively be engaged.
