A zone combustion or firing system for use with tubular ceramic materials which are fed longitudinally through a rotating tubular furnace, is so designed that the unburnt or unheated tube material is given rotary and longitudinal motion which is compatible with the operation characteristics of the tubular furnace. After firing the tubes are removed to a storage where rotary motion takes place comparable to that occuring in the tubular furnace. The unheated tube is pushed into the furnace by a rotating tube which is the same diameter as the inside diameter of the furnace.
