An installation, pref. trailer-mounted for mobility is used for the continuous distn. of wine by the "Charente" method to produce high quality brandy. It comprises primary and secondary distn. columns in series, each with its own heat generating boiler. Wine to be distilled is supplied to the primary, trickle column via a preheater which condenses vapour from the primary column. Distillate from the preheater/condenser is passed through a second preheater to the secondary, bubble-cap, column which passes vapour back through the preheater to be condensed and passed on through the coil of a cooler. Delivering the high quality brandy. First running "head prods" and "tail end" prods. are drawn off separately. Head prods. are pref. sepd. off at the top of the second preheater and condensed in the cooler Tail prods. are pref. sepd. off at a stage in the secondary column and condensed in the cooler. There is high utilisation of labour and associated plant. Previous batch distn. could not recover >=70% of the alcohol in the wine supplied but the new method recovers =90%.
|
