The butterfly valve (10) is controlled by a lever connected by a linkage (13) to the accelerator pedal (14). A second lever (16) is provided with an adjustable stop (17) for the pedal link (12) and is connected to a pneumatic actuator (19). One side of the diaphragm (23) is exposed to the atmosphere, and the other is connected to the electromagnetic valve (29). When the driver operates the switch (26), the valve (29) is energised and connects the underside of the diaphragm (23) to the inlet manifold (9). This causes the lever (16) to rotate and open the butterfly valve (12) to a position which maintains a constant pressure in the inlet manifold. This constant pressure is chosen to provide conditions of maximum engine thermal efficiency.
|
