PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic equalization method that automatically updates an equalization characteristic required for demodulating a received signal including a training signal with a prescribed pattern sent from a transmitter side and to provide an automatic equalization circuit and a reception circuit. SOLUTION: First a tap coefficient of a data recovery automatic equalizer is initially set on the basis of a received training signal, the tap coefficient is updated once per N symbols (N is an integer of 1 or over) of the received signal by using the received signal after the initializing, the data recovery automatic equalizer equalizes the received signal on the basis of the updated tap coefficient and the equalized received signal is demodulated.
