<p>The contact breaker is for an internal combustion engine with an odd number of cylinders. It consists of a contact breaker plate with a number of contacts and a distributor shaft driven by a motor, where the ignition energy stored in an ignition coil is used to transform an ignition voltage in the secondary of the coil when the primary current circuit is broken. The contacts are encapsulated in a gas-tight chamber and the distributor shaft is driven by a magnetic system. The magnetic armature (10, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18) has twice the number of pole zones as the number of motor cylinders. The protective shield contacts (5, 6) are fitted with a permanent magnet (15) which produces a field weakening the field of the rotating magntic armature. This produces only half the number of switching points that would normally be produced for the available number of pole zones.</p> |
