The method of assembly applies to bookcases or cupboards built up from subassemblies of shelves or cupboards mounted on top of one another. The lower end wall of each subassembly rests on a guide strip (6). This strip (6) is set back from the end wall by a distance equal to the wall thickness. A semi-circular projection (4) is formed in the lower edge of the end wall. A matching recess is provided in the upper edge. When one sub-assembly is placed over another the projections (4) fit in the recesses (5). Endways movement is prevented by a strip (6). A special dowel fits in the holes (7) to secure assemblies mounted side by side.
