<p>Each element is of the type having an impermeable base plate and permeable filtration surface. A filtrate off-take space is enclosed between the two surfaces, which are inclined downwards towards the filtrate outlet, and joined at their outer edge. Each element has passages through it, located at the lowest point at which filter cake is formed. The passages communicate at either end with the unfiltered liq. above and below the element respectively but do not communicate with the filtrate chamber inside the element. If filtration process is prematurely stopped, e.g. due to shiny suspension or incorrect addn. of filter-aiding additive, the unfiltered liq. can be completely drained.</p> |
