The separator has two cylindrical zones, one leading into the other which is positioned above it. The upper zone is of greater dia. than the lower. The upper portion of the lower zone protrudes into the upper zone which forms an annular section around it. Lines are connected to the base and the top of the upper section to remove and pump away water and/or air. Lines are connected into the upper part of the lower zone and into the base of the annular space to introduce and remove regenerative reagents and purge water. Esp. for use with the separation and subsequent regeneration of mixed bed cationic and anionic ion exchange resins for use in demineralisation of water. The problem with a separator claimed in DT 2606784 is layering of the two resins and incomplete separation. This system avoids this completely. The system can be used in thermo-nuclear plants.
