Method of reducing the odour intensity of waste air from animal processing and other plants is carried out by extracting the air most heavily laden with odour-releasing material directly from the collecting points, e.g. boilers, troughs for raw materials, etc. This air is injected into the aerating tanks of an existing clarifying plant to aerate the liq. to be clarified, and after passage through the liq. and preliminary purification it is drawn off again from the covered aerating tanks. It is then passed to a normal wet chemical waste air treating plant designed for medium odour intensities. Reaction chemicals are saved by preventing the high-intensity odour-releasing materials from entering the wet chemical treating plant. Dust is also removed before entering this plant, which prevents blockage.
