The lighting device has a lighting rocket in the form of a closed hollow body and a lighting unit attached to the body by means of fittings such that the hollow body consists of two profiled sections which extend the whole of its length and held together at the extremities by attachment elements, has the profiled section (18, 20) produced to have identical cross sectional designs. The lighting rocket (12) is of roughly rectangular cross section and the separator plane between the profile sections (18, 20) has two sides at right angles to one another. The sections (18, 20) are of iron sheet, forged or extended aluminium or thermal hardening plastics.
