A method for preparing organic acids or derivatives thereof are provided to improve an oxidation rate even in a milder reaction condition and to increase a conversion rate of the reaction and both selectivity and yield of purified terephthalic acid. A method for preparing organic acids or derivatives thereof includes a step of oxidizing hydrocarbon materials in the presence of a MC-type homogeneous catalyst and an oxidant. The MC-type homogeneous catalyst is selected from Co/Br, Mn/Br, Co/Mn/Br, and Co/Mn/M/Br, wherein the M is selected from Ni, Fe, Zr, Hf, Zn, Ti, Cu, Cr, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Ta, Nb, Ta, Re, Ce, Pr, Nd, Mo, V, and combinations thereof. The oxidant is an O2/CO2 mixture gas, wherein the volume ratio of O2 in the mixture gas is 30-40%.
