A road finishing train comprises a number of machines such as a spreader 5, compactor 4, smoothing screed 3 and joint vibrator 32 movable along rails formed of travelling side shuttering 6 propelled through an endless driving track 10. The track 10 may be a crawler tractor 9 or it may be supported by the leading side forms which are joined together transversely to form a self propelled vehicle. The spreader and compactor may be rigid wilth the first side forms. The machines may incorporate automatic level maintaining means using a fixed datum wire 19. The side forms 6 may be skid shaped to slide on the base surface or may have idling tracks or rollers, the forms being joined longitudinally by ball joints. The forms may'be joined transversely with spacers 11 or the rail formation on the top of the box or channel section may be a channel acting with the rollers 13 of the machines for lateral location. |
