1,207,328. Disc brake. SOC. ANON. D.B.A. 8 Nov., 1967 [10 Nov., 1966], No. 50805/67. Heading F2E. A disc brake comprises a pad assembly 14, 16 supported within an opening 12 in an L-shaped fixed support 10, a sliding stirrup 34 guided by removable key members 44 mounted on axially extending opposed parallel edges 24 of the support 10 and a further pad assembly 28, 30 having a rigid backing plate 28 provided with ends mounted independently of the stirrup 34 in sliding engagement with the outermost free ends. 26 of the edges 24. As shown, the backing plate of the pad assembly 28, 30 has two slots 32 which co-operate with the edges 26 of the support arms 22 to prevent circumferential movement. The key members 44 are secured to the support 10 by pins 52. The key members have a resilient layer 54 of elastomeric material or of synthetic resin which may be coated or bonded to all of its faces including 48. Rattling is prevented by the resilient coating 54 and also by a magnet 64 between the back plate 28 and the stirrup 34 and by a further magnet between the other back plate 14 and the piston (38) of the brake actuator (40, Fig. 2, not shown). The friction pad assembly 14, 16 has projections 20 on the back plate 14 which are maintained against the outer walls of slots 18 in the opening 12 by a leaf spring 21. The support 10 is made of two parts 56, 58 secured together by studs 60 and bolts 62. The brake may alternatively be mechanically operated. |
