1281350 Tape loading; cassette loading DIGITAL INFORMATION DEVICES Inc 3 Dec 1969 [4 Dec 1968 (3)] 58943/69 Heading G5R In a tape loading system, a box 140, (Figs. 8- 10), is evacuated to pull a tape loop from a cassette and a head/guide assembly 150, 146, 147, 148, which was in a withdrawn position, is moved inside the loop. The vacuum is then released in box 140 and outer boxes 142, 142 are then evacuated to produce the effect of Fig. 10 where the tape is in the desired position relative to the head/guide assembly, and also to two pneumatic capstans 152, 154. The pneumatic system, which is described in detail with reference to Fig. 20 (not shown), is also used to operate a brake (213, Fig. 2, not shown) and a system (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), for forcing the tape reels into firm engagement with hubs. In the cassette loading/latching system, a cassette is dropped into a housing 26 (Fig. 5), and the housing is rotated and latched in the (dotted line) operating position by a lever 110, the lever engaging a catch 106. The latch may be unlatched by energizing a solenoid 116 to rotate the lever and so cause disengagement with the catch. |
