1288427 Setting gems DIAMANTS DE JOAILLERIE HENRI FAVRE SA 30 Dec 1969 [30 Dec 1968 (2)] 63284/69 Addition to 1183253 Heading A3H In a process for setting precious stones as described in Specification number 1183253 in which an intermediate metal support is polished and pierced to form a mounting orifice having an inner peripheral shoulder, a stone is placed on the shoulder, portions of the metal from the support are bent over the periphery of the stone, and the support is mounted in a piece of jewellery, the inner peripheral shoulder of the support is of trunco-conical form and at least one diametral slot is provided through the walls of the mounting orifice to divide the shoulder into sections. The portions of the support are preferably bent by means of a special tool which has a swaging punch having a dished-out die which engages the outer periphery of the support and constrains portions of metal adjacent the orifice to deform and overlap the stone. The punch has a spring loaded sliding locating member which engages the face of the stone which may have an upper slanting edge parallel to the dished-out portion of the punch. |
