Titanium phosphate crystalline hexagonal platelets having a thickness of at least 0.05 mu (pref. 0.1-5 mu) are produced by heating a titanium-containing substance (e.g. TiO2) in a 3-5 M H3PO4 solution (the Ti concentration being 0.13-1 M) at 100-225 degrees C (under autogenous pressure) for 15 mins to 4 hrs. Nucleating crystals may be used in an amount of 0.125-1.0%. The platelets are suitable for use as reinforcing agents for polymers, pigments for paints and paper, light stabilizers, due to their very high reflection ability with respect to uv. radiation, ion exchange agents, etc. |
