1,169,642. Laminated safety-glass. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 2 Aug., 1967 [12 Oct., 1966], No. 35505/67. Heading B5N. In laminated safety glass having a plastics layer interposed between two sheets of glass, at least one of the latter is of float glass and is arranged with its face that has been in contact with the bath during its formation exposed and with its other face, which may have surface irregularities, adjacent to the plastics layer. As a result of the lamination process, the plastics which has a refractive index similar to that of the glass, e.g. polyvinyl butyral, fills the surface irregularities. The other sheet of glass may also be of float glass or it may be of plate glass. The sheets of glass may be bent prior to being laminated so as to form a windscreen when laminated by heat and pressure. The bloom on the face of the float glass to be exposed in the laminate may be reduced by polishing or by reducing the degree of oxidation of the tin in the float chamber during the manufacture of the float glass. |
