Ceramic nuclear fuel elements

Particles of fuel are coated with a mixture of powdered graphite and synthetic resin binder. The coated particles are moulded into pressings in a mould tool, typically by centrifugal force, and then the pressings are fired to carbonized the binder. The resultant elements are homogeneous, each particle having a coating of essentially equal thickness.
