In stoving lacquers based on organic solvents and a copolymer, the copolymer is prepd. from (a) 15-65 wt.% of styrene, (b) 2-12% of hydroxyethyl or hydroxypropyl (meth)acrylate, (c) 1-3% of (meth)acrylic acid, (d) 12-30% of an ether of N-methylol(meth)acrylamide with a 1-8 C satd. alcohol, (e) 10-55% of an ester of (meth)acrylic acid with a 1-10 C alkanol or a mixture of such esters, and (f) 2-15% of a hydroxyalkyl ester of (meth)acrylic acid with the formula: (where n = 2-6, and R is H or CH3;) the hydroxyalkyl ester(s) have OH nos. of 100 - 200. The lacquers can be stoved at relatively low temp. The coatings have improved impact resistance and adhesion, and good elasticity, weather-resistance, hardness and resistance to saponification. The lacquers are esp. used on sheet metal, e.g. for motor body-work, ships, washing machines, refrigerators etc. |
