[Also in Divisions A6 and D1] A net, e.g. a tennis net, 10 having a rectilinear mesh has an edge band 14 formed of an organic thermoplastic material folded upon itself to enclose at least part of each mesh of the outermost row of meshes and welded to itself, 16, within each such mesh. As shown, the band 14 comprises a cotton fabric coated on one or both sides or impregnated with e.g. P.V.C. and welded by high frequency heating in areas 16, so permitting the threads of the net a limited degree of freedom. Solvents may be used to promote softening of the parts to be welded. The net may comprise organic thermoplastic fibres 11, 12 welded together by thermoplastic elements 13.
