<p>A product is mfd. from an expanded viscous inorganic material, e.g. a slag, a glass powder or agglomerate, slag, flotation residue etc. by heating to fusion, expansion into a block and cooling to reduce the dimensions of the block, wherein from the moment when the interior of the block is solidified until the reduction of dimensions, the temperature gradients between different zones of the block are held sufficiently constant to avoid fissuring. The materials may be used as thermal insulation e.g. for building construction.</p> |
