Preparation of metal powders by reduction of the relevant metal halides with gaseous hydrogen as described in Netherlands Patent Application 68.06398. Ned. Pat. is improved by the metal halides being of such a composition that an alloy powder is obtained that contains one or more of the metals W, Mo, Ta, Nb, and Re. - Additional granular growth is promoted.
