A measurement device for sediments which are suspended in water courses has, as the collecting container, a weighing basin of a weighing machine which operates under water. The growth of sediment can thus be determined continuously, which makes it possible to identify brief fluctuations of the sediment which is suspended in the water. The weighing machine advantageously has a differential-pressure measurement cell, as a force sensor, having a diaphragm arrangement, as a result of which a weighing machine is created which operates independently of the water pressure.
