PURPOSE:To prevent degradation of an image due to faulty ink jet by providing an accumulated heat distribution control device for effecting heating within a range, where no bubbles is generated, to an ink jet element for thermal energy generation receiving no recording signal, for a specified period, which is given to a recording head during recording operation, in addition to the recording signal. CONSTITUTION:An array of data pieces L1 arranged at the bottom represents a line of data to be used for recording, and arrays of data pieces L2, L3, L4 represent data to be used for recording after each line 1, 2, 3. If an estimated value of accumulated heat state of a nozzle corresponding to data D painted solidly in black in the data array L4 is below a specified level, a preheating pulse signal is output by a calculator 18 so that a heating pulse at which no ink is discharged is applied to a thermal resistor, if printing data corresponding to D in L1 need not be discharged, by allowing the estimated value to be input to the calculator 18. Thus it is possible to correct the irregularities of the discharge properties due to temperature difference between the discharge apertures during recording and obtain a satisfactory image. |
