The invention relates to a ketalisation method, in particular for sterically hindered ketones, in which a ketone of the formula R<1>COCH3 in which R<1> is optionally unsaturated alkyl, is reacted with catalytic amounts of alcohol R<2>OH in which R<2> is alkyl or haloalkyl, and at least equimolar amounts of orthoformate HC(OR<2>)3 under acidic conditions, with removal of the resulting formate HCOOR<2>, to give ketals of the formula R<1>C(CH3)(OR<2>)2. |
