PURPOSE: A system is provided to maintain the safe distance between a vehicle and a rear vehicle when moving forward and backward and to sense a correct signal about the distance between two vehicles. CONSTITUTION: A system comprises a signal input unit(100) sensing the state of a vehicle, a memory unit(200) storing a standard data about the safe distance between two vehicles depending on the traveling speed, a brake operating unit(300) installed in a driver seat, a controller(400) feeding an operating signal to the brake operating unit to keep the safe distance after comparing and operating the data in the memory unit and all kinds of signals from the signal input unit, a self-diagnosing unit(600) for checking the abnormality of the system, and a warning sound generator(500).
