PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a degradable surfactant which does not the adhesiveness, water and heat resistances, etc., of a coating layer because it does not remain in an aqueous resin dispersion usable for a coating material, ink, etc., in the case that the aqueous resin dispersion is prepared by emulsion polymerization or the forced emulsification of the resin. SOLUTION: The degradable surfactant has one or more residues, in one molecule, selected from substituted or unsubstituted N-phenylglycine salt residues, substituted or unsubstituted phenylthioacetate residues, or substituted or unsubstituted phenoxyacetate residues, particularly one or more residues of formula (1) [where X is NR<2> (R<2> is H or alkyl), S or O; R<1> is a hydrophobic group; Z is O, CO, S, NR<7> (R<7> is H or a 1-20C alkyl) or NHCO; (m) is 0 or 1; and M is an alkali metal or NR<3> R<4> R<5> H<+> (R<3> -R<5> are the same or different and each H or alkyl)].
