A rotating electric machine is provided to secure cooling performance of a field coil by forming a plurality of ventilation paths inside a field coil. A rotating electric machine includes a stator and a rotor(3). The rotor has a plurality of coil slots(22) and a field coil(8). The plurality of coil slots are formed in a circumference direction of the rotor with a predetermined interval. A sub-slot(7) is formed in the bottom part of each coil slot. A plurality of radial cooling medium paths(9) are formed in the field coil in the axial direction of the rotor. The plurality of radial cooling medium paths are formed in the stator. The cooling medium path of the stator and the cooling medium path of the rotor comprise a downward flow path and an upward flow path. The downward flow path guides the flow of the cooling medium(6) the guide to the inside of the radial direction of the rotating electric machine. The upward flow path guides the flow of the cooling medium to the outside of the radial direction of the rotating electric machine. The downward flow path and the upward flow path are connected through a sub slot.
