PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably expose a subject area to be a dimming target area independently of existence of a high-luminance light source.SOLUTION: A control unit 102 respectively divides a non-emitting image obtained by strobe non-emission and a preparatory emitting image obtained by emitting a strobe into the predetermined number of block areas and selects a subject area in the non-emitting image in accordance with a luminance difference of the block areas. A subject weight calculation unit 116 defines a first weighted subject area by allocating predetermined luminance to each of the block areas in the subject area and defines a second weighted subject area by multiplying a luminance value of the block area in the first subject area corresponding to a block area of which the luminance value in the subject area in the non-emitting image is a predetermined luminance value or more by a predetermined weight coefficient. The control unit performs emitting control in accordance with emitted light quantity for suitably exposing the second weighted subject area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
