: Proposed is an apparatus for determining the properties of a compactable material in which the material is continuously conveyed through a measuring zone at substantially constant, adjustable counter pressure and is preferably subsequently stress-relieved, with a preferably controllable conveying organ, inparticular a screw, disposed in a conveying line, a back-up zone in which mobile cross section constrictors whose position depends on the back-up pressureand by means of which a predetermined pressure is adjustable in the measuring zone, for instance an elastically yielding back-up body whose yieldingresistance is preferably adjustable and which is placed onto the conveying line,being provived in conveying direction downstream of the conveying organ, characterized in that the back-up body is rotatably driven in a manner known per se, in particular coupled with the conveying organ. The cross section constrictors could also have the form of back-up rings inflatable by means of a pressure medium and fixedly disposed in the conveying line according to one variant. Fig. 1.
