A plastic composition for use in shaped form for application to ferrous surfaces for protection, insulation, jointing or sealing consists of a bituminous and/or rubbery and/or resinous base, with or without filler, containing a permanently magnetized substance, e.g. barium ferrite, the magnetization being oriented so that the material will adhere temporarily to a surface in any position. On heating, the materials become permanently bonded to the surface. The magnetized component may be uniformly distributed or in a separate layer and the material may include other layers, e.g. of felt or foam. |
