Automated production of thermoplastic (polyethylene) carrier bags with creased sidewalls, boxed ends and the mouths reinforced with strips of (extruded) plastic profiles which reinforce the handle mountings or hand hole and pref. which have complementary tongue-and-groove engagement for closing the bags. The base seam may be welded before, during or after lamination of the spread bag lips to the strip profiles. Pref. bags made in pairs.
