Cpds. of general formula (where R1 and R2 = H or opt. substd. straight or branched chain aliphatic or alicyclic grps. with not more than 20C in the main chain; or R1 and R2 may be bonded together by an additional bond. X and Y (same or diff.) = opt. substd. aryl grps. or opt. substd. bivalent aryl grps. or several aryl grps. bonded together via single or multiple bonds or by the groupings -CH2-, CHo, -O-, -S-, -SO2-, in which Y or a part thereof is a bivalent alkyl or cycloakly grp; Z = -H, -OH, -NO2, -CHO, -SH or may be prepd. by reacting N-hydroxyaryl substd. alpha-aminoacid nitriles or alpha-aminoacid esters with isocyanates under anhyd. conditions, pref. in chlorobenzene, benzene, or dioxan above room temp.
