[Also in Division C2] Polymer compositions contain as a flame retardant additive compounds of the Formula I wherein X represents halogen, Y and Y<SP>1</SP> represent halogen, alkyl C 1-4 , alkoxy C 1-4 or halogen substituted alkyl C 1-4 or alkoxy C 1-4 and R represents hydrogen, alkyl C 1-4 or halogen. Suitable polymers include natural rubber, linear and cross-linked polybutadiene, polyethylene, polypropylene, butyl rubber, ethylenepropylene rubber and terpolymer, poly(cyclopentadiene), polystyrene and high impact polystyrene, acrylonitrile - butadiene - styrene graft polymer, polyamide, poly(styrene-acrylonitrile), acrylic rubber and polycarbonate. The preferred compound I is 6-(1<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP>,5<SP>1</SP>,6<SP>1</SP>,7<SP>1</SP>,7<SP>1</SP>- hexachloro - 5<SP>1</SP> - norbornen - 2<SP>1</SP> - yl) - 1,2,3,4,9,9- hexachloro - 1 ,4,4a,5,6,7, 8,8a - octahydro - 1,4- methanonaphthalene. Antimony compounds may also be present. |
