摘要 1,185,113. Packaging articles, e.g. lenses &c.; endless conveyers; grippers for handling articles. CORNING GLASS WORKS. 11 March, 1968 [10 March, 1967], No. 11678/68. Headings B8A, B8C and B8H. [Also in Division F2] In apparatus for fitting flat or dish-like articles between rows of bosses in a sheet of flexible material, e.g. for forming packages of lenses or reflectors as described in Specification 1,074,774, the articles are delivered horizontally on to a platform having means to grip and release the articles, the platform being carried on an arm which pivots through 90 degrees whilst its pivot point moves horizontally, to deposit the articles edgewise between the bosses of the sheet, the latter being supported in a semicircular configuration on an intermittently moving endless conveyer. An article, e.g. a headlight lens 21 delivered on a rotary platform 20 is transferred by an arm 24, supporting a suction chuck 26, on to a platform 136, which deposits it on to a wrapper 41, supported on a conveyer 33. The platform 136 is carried on a pivoted arm 51, Fig. 8, and has retractable fingers 137 to grip and release the articles 21. The arm 51 is caused to rotate 90 degrees and at the same time to move linearly by cam means (see Division F2), the lens being thereby brought into the vertical plane and nested by the linear movement with lenses already in the wrapper. Related cam means operates a push rod 93, 95 which retracts the fingers 137 against a spring 157 through linkage 138, 139, 153. The finger spacing is adjustable for different article sizes. The conveyer 33 is moved in steps and each article properly deposited actuates a switch (SW1), Figs. 9, 10 (not shown) through a contact (167) permitting the next cycle. However, if the article is not positioned correctly, the switch (SW1) is not tilted and the apparatus is stopped. Another switch (SW2) is actuated by the top of the articles contacting a roller (172) as they are carried on the platform 136; if no article is present, the switch (SW2) is not actuated and the stepping motion of the conveyer is stopped until another article is fed. Control over the orientation of the articles is maintained throughout.
