[Also in Divisions B1 and C3] In a method of making polymerization catalysts aluminium is dissolved in 30% NaOH solution and the product diluted to make a sodium aluminate solution of S.G. 1À25. CO 2 was bubbled through this solution to yield Al 2 O 3 .H 2 O as a precipitate. After washing, drying and examination particles of 40-100Á were found to have the bayerite structure. A similar preparative process is described starting from hydrargillite (Al 2 O 3 .3H 2 O). The bayerite is calcined at 400-700‹ C. to give a particle size of 10-150Á.
