A roll of recording tape 27 wrapped about a central cylindrical hub (24, Fig. 8) carries at its outer end a leader 33 which has extending longitudinally along its inner face an adherent surface area 34 and a non-adherent surface area 36, the portion of the leader 33 behind the non- adherent area 36 being thicker than the portion behind the adherent area 34 so as to urge a co-operating transducer (107) to a position in which it is out of contact with the adherent area. As shown, the leader 33 carries a layer of pressure-sensitive adhesive material 43 along which a central strip of recording tape is disposed to form the non-adherent area 36. |
