A yarn float controller is provided in a cylinder - and - dial machine and comprises a spring loaded element 10 having a recessed head 11 which is normally positioned adjacent the needles near a yarn feed. In the event of a yarn missing the neeedles the controller head 11. engages the yarn and holds it correctly positioned to enable it to be taken by the following needles. Should it be desired to remove the controller to enable changes to be made for example, a pattern change deflection of the element 10 sideways releases it to enable it to be withdrawn under the influence of a spring 12. The controller may also be used as a detector of faulty needles and for this purpose electrical contacts 24, 23 are provided which when engaged after the element 10 has been released as the result of engaging a faulty needle serve to operate a stop-motion and effect stoppage of the machine. A notch 19 is formed in the side of the element 10 and by engaging the slot 19 in a slate 17 on the bottom of a housing 15 for the element the element 8 is retained in a projected position until deflected and retracted. |
