1339271 Esterification of nitrobenzoic acid with glycerol ASPRO-NICHOLAS Ltd 5 Oct 1971 [8 Oct 1970] 47836/70 Heading C2C A method of esterifying nitrobenzoic acid with glycerol comprises heating at a temperature of at least 100‹ C. a mixture of the nitrobenzoic acid and glycerol in the presence of (a) a catalytic quantity of an acid esterification catalyst, e.g. sulphuric acid-or a toluene sulphonic acid CD which is soluble in the reacttion mixture at the reaction temperature, and (b) an entraining liquid having its boiling point above 100‹ C. e.g. toluene or chlorobenzene to separate liberated water by azeotropic distillation. The glycerol mono-p-nitrobenzoate may be reduced in known manner to a corresponding amino compound. |
