PURPOSE:To constitute a device to be compact and inexpensive and to reduce power consumption by arranging an erasing means in an image forming cartridge. CONSTITUTION:The erasing means 45 consisting of an LED array for removing residual charge on the surface of a photosensitive drum 4 after transfer is performed is disposed in a space between a cleaning blade 7 in the image forming cartridge 1 and an electrostatic charger 52 so that it may be approximately opposed to the drum 4. A driving current for the means 45 is supplied in a state where the means 45 is connected to an electrode provided in the cartridge 1 by attaching the means 45 to the cartridge 1. Since the means 45 is disposed so that it may be approximately opposed to the drum 4, the residual charge is surely removed even when light output becomes large, the device is made compact and inexpensive and the power consumption is reduced.
