Disclosed is a method for the production of the sulfur-containing salts of N-phosphonomethylglycine in which N-phosphonomethylglycine is reacted with a trisubstituted sulfonium or trisubstituted sulfoxonium hydroxide, wherein the reaction is conducted at a temperature and for a sufficient period of time to cause completion of the reaction. The end product, the trisubstituted sulfonium or trisubstituted sulfoxonium salts of N-phosphonomethylglycine are useful as herbicides. |
